How can you order the HIV Self-Test Kit?
You can order the HIV Self-Test Kit by:
- Visiting the website or Facebook page: Know4sure.lk
- Calling the HIV self-testing hotline: 071 637 9192
Your personal information will only be shared with the doctor responsible for providing the test kits. Your privacy is 100% ensured.
Each test kit can be used only once. The test uses only oral fluid collected from your gums.
How do you perform the HIV oral self-test?
Before starting the test:
- Do not eat or drink anything for 15 minutes before the test.
- Do not rinse or clean your mouth for at least 30 minutes before the test.
- Find a well-lit and quiet place.
Steps:
- Open the package and remove the contents.
- Read the instruction leaflet carefully.
- Inside the kit, you will find an oral sample collection device and a small tube containing liquid with a cap.
- Take out the tube and place it in the holder.
- Open the cap of the tube.
- Remove the oral swab device from the package.
- Discard the storage packet included in the kit.
- Do not touch the flat part of the swab with your hands at any time.
- Gently swipe the flat side of the device along the upper gum once, then along the lower gum once.
- Place the swab into the tube in the holder.
- Read the result after 20 minutes. Do not read the result after 40 minutes, as it may be inaccurate.
How to interpret the results:
- If there is a red line next to C and a red line next to T, you may be HIV positive. Please visit the nearest STI clinic for further testing. You may also call 0716379192 for further guidance.
- If there is a red line next to C but no line next to T, you are likely HIV negative. However, if you suspect exposure within the last 3 months, repeat the test after 3 months.
- If there is no line next to C, or if both C and T lines are missing, or if the background is red, the test is invalid. Please repeat the test using a new kit.
After testing, discard the tube, swab, and all materials into a general waste bin.
If you are already diagnosed with HIV and on treatment, this self-test may not give accurate results.
This free service is provided by the National STD/AIDS Control Programme of Sri Lanka, allowing you to easily know your HIV status in the privacy of your own home.
